Sound Library

Sound Library

Postby hometime » Wed Oct 11, 2006 11:21 am

Even though I have the paths configured correctly, if I open the sound library and click on one of the files it shows "file not found". What's the secret here?

Matt,
I've tried writing several times but always get my mail back undeliverable.

Thanks!

Hey Don,

Where are you configuring your paths? In Foley Studio config?

What address are you writing to? I'm surprised it's getting bounced back. Can you post the error message you're getting?

Thanks,

Matt Kaustinen

Yes, configuring in the Foley Studio configuration dialog.
The addresses I've written to are:
Matt at boomerlabs dot com
and
support at boomerlabs dot com

Don,

Can you copy the rejection message you get and post it here?

Also, what version of MAX are you running?

By rejection message are you referring to the emails or the library files not being found?
I've had to rebuild my Max install and have tried reinstalling FSM twice but the emitter and effector helper objects aren't showing up in the Helpers section.
I'm using Max 8 SP3.

Hey Don,

Email would be a good way for us to work through this. Can you post the email rejection message you're getting?

Regarding your helper problem. Under Helpers, is there a Foley Studio MAX dropdown? And when you select it, what do you see?

Thanks,

Matt

Hey Matt,
I found out why the installation didn't seem to work,
the Plugin.ini file didn't have the first line for loading additional plugins. When I did put it in Max would crash.
I took out three files belonging to two other third party plugins since maybe I need to run their installers again to have them set up correctly. Anyway, all the FSM stuff is working, except the library interface still shows all the available audio files but as before when I click on any of the entries the name of the file shows up but in the field to the right of the player slider the text "File not found." is displayed.

Here are the returned mail messages:

Don,

Sent a test message. Please reply when you receive it.

OK, looking through your emails, it appears that you still have 2 problems:

1) Triggering an event at something other than time 0
2) Sound Library saves "File Not Found" when you browse

Can you try sending me MAX file problem number one? If email still fails, use:
ftp.boomerlabs.com
username: upload
password: upload

On the second problem, under the Foley Studio MAX panel, click on settings and then Advanced. Please ensure that the proper library paths are indicated there.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,
I've replied to your test email and have sent a Max file.
If you don't get it let me know and I'll FTP it.
I've also posted a Camtasia movie showing the file not found issue in the library.

http://www.hometime.net/FSM/files_not_found.html

I just noticed if I go further down in the list, there are many files that are showing up as available, but this is strange since all the folders with all the file have paths set to two complete sets in two different places.
I also just noticed the acoustic material is not in my available materials list. I reinstalled the program and still no acoustic material.

Thanks,
Don

Don,

This is VERY strange. Also, sadly, I did not get any mail from you. I'm going to add you to my whitelist to see if that makes a difference.

OK, a few things:

1) Can you please post a screen shot of your "Advanced" settings?
2) Can you play the "File Not Found" files from windows?
3) Watching the screen capture, it looks like all of the files in the "Music" directory are working, but the "SFX" one isn't. Is it possible that the path name got messed up?
4) Can you post the support information that FSM reports?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,
I found out why the library wasn't working, well thanks to you for he head's up, the path for the SFX files just stated "SFX" instead of "SFX All". Is that something I did or was it the installer?

Here is the support info without the license number.
I guess since it's not a serial number it doesn't matter if it is made public, just in case:

== System Info ==
Foley Studio Build: 2.30A - 8000 (Mar 8 2005)
Serial: <Unknown>
PSVer: 1.1.0
Name: <Unknown>
Company: <Unknown>
Status: Authorized
Machine ID: 1C9D0547-OPTERONX2
MAX Version: 8.0 (MAX-COM)
License Number: ..........
Windows Version: Windows XP+ Service Pack 1 (Build 3790)
Processors: 2
Instruction Set: SSE1 or greater
Audio Device 1: NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio

Here is the Max set up scene:
http://www.hometime.net/FSM/test.ace

Any ideas on why the acoustic material isn't showing up?

I'l try another test email.

Sorry for the trouble,
Don

Nope, mail is back undeliverable again.
It could be possible your mail server has my domain name on a SPAM list, I've had spammers spoofing my domain name for a couple of years.

Don,

OK, well, I added you to my email "whitelist", so you should be good.

Yep, the directory path should have been filled in as "SFX" only.

I'll dive into your other questions later today.

Ok, since the path was for "SFX" only it wasn't reading the "SFX All" folder.
Isn't it up to the user to put the library files into the install folder? So, maybe some notes in the documentation unless I missed it.
I guess you have the files broken up into sections (different folders) due to download issues?

I am sending another test email, but the last one I sent after you had already said you were adding me to your whitelist, last night. Or maybe you said you "were going to" and have now done it. Let me know if you receive the new test mail, please.

Thanks,
Don
